Gold Revenues PDF Print E-mail

In order to avoid a document having many stamps attached to it, the Gold revenues for ultra-high values of duty were produced. These were printed individually when values exceeding £1000 were required.

When printed, these stamps had 4 decent sized margins, approximately 4mm wide. These margins were however often trimmed prior to use.

The earliest recorded use of these stamps is 7th July 1884, and they were produced until the use of stamps for collection of duty was discontined in 1955.

As the numbers of these stamps produced was low, and they were produced individually, it is possible for the enthusiast to research government records and track the exact transaction from which each stamp corresponded.
